- Develop assessment tools that examine the academic engagement of students from diverse backgrounds in relation to their own definition of academic success;
- Identify potential relationships between students’ academic success and their academic engagement;
- Test and validate assessment tools; and
- Disseminate the developed assessment tools to academic libraries
Research Questions
The assessment tools allow the research team to answer the following questions:
- How do student demographics (e.g., Pell-grant eligibility, first-generation status, and race/ethnicity) influence their engagement in academic activities, including library use?
- What is the relationship between students’ psychological factors (self-regulation, social learning, ability to concentrate) and their academic engagement?
- How do students define academic success, and how do they evaluate their own academic success?
- What are the primary factors influencing their academic performance over an 8-week period?
